Workshop on the Introduction and Preparation of Guidebooks for Student Internships for Industrial Work Practices (PRAKERIN) of Tourism Vocational Schools, Instructor Journals and Supervisor Journals
In the Tourism TVET Ecosystem Strengthening project in Southwest Sumba, DESMA Center has successfully assisted SMKS Pancasila and SMKN 2 Tambolaka to strengthen networking and cooperation with the industry. One of the activities implemented and received support from the industry included the formulation and preparation of a PRAKERIN student internship guidebook.
The formulation of the PRAKERIN student internship guidebook was carried out on 31 March 2021. DESMA Center previously conducted the initial drafting of the PRAKERIN student internship guidebook concept and conducted several introductory sessions to schools and industries. The guidebook aims to improve the quality of student internship performance. In addition to the PRAKERIN student internship guidebook, an Instructor's Journal, for the industry to monitor and evaluate the internship program, and a Supervisor's Journal, for teachers to assist students who are doing PRAKERIN.

The draft PRAKERIN student internship guidebook was compiled together with the forms that will be used by students when carrying out PRAKERIN activities in the industry. Industry players participated in the workshop on the Introduction and Compilation of the Tourism Vocational School PRAKERIN Student Internship Handbook, Instructor Journal and Supervisor Journal.
The activity was attended by 16 participants representing SMKS Pancasila, SMK Bakti Luhur, SMKN 2 Tambolaka City, and industry players, including: Sumba Hospitality Foundation (SHF) which also has a vocational school of hospitality and culinary, accommodation business Eco Maringi Resort and culinary business Makan Dulu Restaurant; PT Sumba Adventure Tours, which also represents the Association of Travel Companies; and the Indonesian Tourist Association (HPI) Southwest Sumba.
The outcome of the workshop was the completion of a draft internship guidebook that will provide guidance to students, covering matters that need to be considered during PRAKERIN. Thanks to the discussion and sharing of experiences and suggestions from the industry players present, the draft internship guidebook received input that will complement the existing concept. From these activities, 3 (three) drafts of internship guidebooks have been prepared, covering the themes of Hospitality, Travel and Culinary.

Review of Draft Guidebook for Student Internship in Industrial Work Practices (PRAKERIN) of Tourism Vocational Schools, Instructor's Journal and Supervisor's Journal
The Workshop on the Introduction and Preparation of the Tourism Vocational School PRAKERIN Student Internship Guidebook, Instructor Journal and Supervisor Journal was continued with a draft review activity on 6 April 2021. This review activity is carried out to improve the material of the draft internship guidebook by exploring input from tourism vocational teachers and industry players more comprehensively.
This activity was attended by teacher representatives from SMK Pancasila, SMK Bakti Luhur, SMKN 2 Tambolaka City, Chairman of HPI Southwest Sumba, Director of PT Sumba Adventure, Chairman of Sumba Hospitality Foundation and staff with a total of 15 participants. From these activities, 3 (three) drafts of internship guidebooks covering the themes of hospitality, Travel and Catering have been refined with various inputs from participants. DESMA Center elaborated on the inputs to finalise the results of the PRAKERIN SMK Tourism Student Internship Handbook, Instructor Journal and Supervisor Journal.
The activities of Introduction and Preparation of Guidebook for Student Internship of Tourism Vocational School PRAKERIN and Review of Draft Guidebook for Student Internship of Tourism Vocational School PRAKERIN, are part of Strengthening the Relationship of Assisted Tourism Vocational Schools with the Tourism Industry, in the Tourism TVET Ecosystem Strengthening project in Southwest Sumba implemented by DESMA Center.

The "DESMA Pandai - Strengthening the Tourism TVET Ecosystem in Southwest Sumba" programme, implemented by DESMA Center, is a collaborative project funded by the William & Lily Foundation and the Adaro Foundation. This collaboration is carried out to support the government, educational institutions, tourism industry and communities in Southwest Sumba in preparing quality human resources and ready to contribute to sustainable tourism development.
The programme lasts for 2 (two) years from August 2020 to July 2022. The direct beneficiaries are SMKS Pancasila Tambolaka and SMKN 2 Tambolaka, Southwest Sumba Regency. Project activities include:
(1) Strengthening advocacy to provincial and district governments; (2) Increasing the capacity of tourism vocational schools to prepare to meet the requirements towards LSP P1; and (3) Strengthening the linkages and networks of tourism vocational schools with related tourism industries.
This project partners with the East Nusa Tenggara Provincial Office of Education and Culture, Korwas SMA/SMK/PLB of Southwest Sumba Regency, Southwest Sumba Regency Government, Southwest Sumba Regency Tourism Office, as well as 2 (two) model SMKs namely SMKN 1 Kupang and SMKN 3 Denpasar which are involved in a sister school programme with SMKS Pancasila and SMKN 2 Tambolaka.
The project also received support from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology and the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy.
