Having the potential for nature-based tourism, Indonesia needs to make efforts to minimize the impact of tourism on the climate crisis. Addressing the climate crisis requires collaboration between governments, local communities and the tourism industry.
Ashoka Indonesia held activities Garahu Bumi Content Challenge in March 2024 which aims to provide understanding of care and movement to slow the climate crisis through educational content via social media. Participants receive training in compiling content for social media.

Supporting the Gaharu Bumi Content Challenge program, as part of the collaboration facilitated by Ashoka Indonesia, DESMA Center provided ecotourism packages to Gunung Leuser National Park, North Sumatra for two winners. This tourist trip will take place on 10-13 July 2024, visiting tourism destinations in Tangkahan, Bukit Lawang and Batu Katak, Gunung Leuser National Park in North Sumatra which is the locus and assisted partner of the DESMA Center in North Sumatra.
Tourist activities carried out include: jungle trekking, river tubing, wildlife watching and Village Tour. Through this activity, it is hoped that it can provide experience for the competition winners, introduce the natural and cultural riches of Gunung Leuser National Park to the younger generation, and foster a sense of love and concern for environmental preservation as a step in facing the climate crisis.
