Workshop Series for Tourism Vocational School (SMK Pariwisata) towards Green School for Support Sustainable Tourism Development in Sumba

Friday, 24 March 2023 DESMA Center held Workshop second session “Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan (SMK) Pariwisata Menuju Sekolah Hijau untuk Mendukung Pengembangan Pariwisata Berkelanjutan di Sumba”. Workshop held in SMKS Bakti Luhur Tambolaka, attended by 37 participant and 8 student as committee. Speaker for this is Mr. Paskalis Muda Tari Mada, S.TP., Head of socialization Infrastructure unit Sumba Barat Daya Agriculture and Food Regency Authority.

 

Considering first workshop on 30 January 2023,  six participant from SMKS Pancasila, SMKN 2 Tambolaka city, SMKS Bakti Luhur Tambolaka, SMKS Efata Omba Rade, SMKN 1 Waikabubak, and SMKS Kasimo presenting school agenda for each other along last two month.

 

Agenda has implemented in every school is (1) short term crop planting who easy to harvest and greening plant for school field; (2) School, public facilities and tourism destination around clean up; (3) energy and water saving, reusing luggage, and installation environmental protect sign; (4) tumbler and tap water refill movement in every school.

 

 

Problem in ever school are similar, there is technical planting, crop pest, habit and awareness about environment. Speaker gave suggestions about problems with planting, he recommended polybag, hydroponic, green house, intercropping, with available technique and land ratio. If a school has limited land, the school can propose to the agriculture authority for land use.

 

DESMA Center also gives suggestions about problems from school, there is: every violation need penalty, garbage ratio in every school must be balanced for ease of disposal, clean toilets in every school, tote bag and tumbler use must be a habit in every school.

 

On last agenda, DESMA Center distribute totebag and tumbler to participant as action for supporting green school. Hopefully participant always use tote bag and tumbler in every activities for reducing plastic. 

 

 

Workshop series Tourism Vocational School (SMK Pariwisata) Towards Green School to support sustainable tourism development in Sumba is a part of Program TVET for Sustainable Tourism Development in Sumba implemented by DESMA Center.

Program TVET for Sustainable Tourism Development in Sumba supported by MISEREOR/KZE; implemented by DESMA Center. Upgrading capacity of human resource on tourism inted to implement “vocation tourism school education program in Sumba in order to fulfilling needs and requirement on tourism industry, so it can offering better employment opportunity to youth and also supporting sustainable tourism in sumba.”

 

This program covering upgrading for (1) management capacity vocational tourism school reciprocal with merdeka curriculum and sustainable tourism concept; (2) teacher capacity in knowledge about pedagogy, teaching dan sustainable tourism (3)partnership tourism vocational school and tourism Industry (4) student entrepreneurship capacity for creating sustainable tourism business.

 

Beneficiaries for this program is (1) SMK Pancasila – Tambolaka, Sumba Barat Daya; (2) SMK Negeri 2 Kota Tambolaka, Sumba Barat Daya; (3) SMK Bakti Luhur – Tambolaka, Sumba Barat Daya; (4) SMK Efata - Omba Rade, Sumba Barat Daya; dan (5) SMK Negeri 1 Waikabubak, Sumba Barat. Partner for this program is (1) Nusa Tenggara Timur education and culture state authority; (2) Government Sumba Barat Daya regency; (3) Government Sumba Barat Regency; (4) Sumba Barat Daya Tourism Regency Authority; dan (5) Sumba Barat Tourism Regency Authority.
